Diane was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on September 14, 1944. She and her family moved to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1955 when she was in the sixth grade. Diane graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1962 and would later earn her bachelor's degree in education from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.

Diane worked as a Caddo Parish school teacher for a few years before discovering her true passion and purpose in this life, working as a Special Education teacher in the public school system. She especially loved working with children with special needs and those who were considered by others to be problem children. She carried this love and compassion beyond the classroom, working with and sponsoring kids in the Special Olympics. Many of her students who went on to do well in school and beyond and the grateful parents of these children had a special place in their hearts for "Ms. Pietz."

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Eva Pietz. She is survived by her brother Richard Pietz, five nieces and nephews, twelve great nieces and nephews, and seven great, great nieces and nephews. She was affectionately referred to by her nieces and nephews as "Nanny." Diane was called to her heavenly home on November 25, 2016 after a sudden illness. She will be missed by family and friends.
